Hot Pants & Boy Shorts for Spring/Summer 2010
Many recent fashion trends have pointed to it, and given the popularity of the likes of lingerie as outerwear it should really come as no surprise. Yes, hem lines continually become shorter as time marches on, but Spring 2010 may be the first season where hem lines can be predominantly measured in negative figures.
Hot Pants:

Boy Shorts & Short Shorts
If hot pants don't take your fancy the consider boy shorts an alternative. Taking their inspiration from boy shorts knickers the cut is akin to hot pants, though differentiated by a featuring a hemline that doesn't curve up the body. Think of short shorts , just not in denim and without the rips, and you're on the money.

Lady Gaga to headline yet another major Fashion Week Shindig...

Lady Gaga will be shaking up things again at this upcoming fashion week. The singer, who performed a memorable set at last season's Marc Jacobs/Visionaire party, will be taking the stage at amfAR's annual New York gala fund-raiser on Feb. 10 at Cipriani 42nd Street. Sharon Stone, Meryl Streep, Vanessa Redgrave, Carine Roitfeld, Diane von Furstenberg, and Donna Karan will also be in attendance.
Sir Elton John and David Furnish will be honored at the festivities, as will Louis Vuitton's chairman and chief executive officer Yves Carcelle. Rufus Wainwright will perform a portion of songs from his re-creation of the Judy Garland Carnegie Hall concert. -WWD
Dutch Design Coloring Dress
There are many things that remind us of childhood- hopscotch, summer, Peeps. But one oft forgotten arbiter of our youth is the paint-by-numbers drawing guide- for many their first introduction to the art world. These guides allowed you to re-create famous pictures and scenes, or choose your own color scheme to create something totally your own. It’s this DIY spirit which fuels the new pet project of fashion designer Berber Soepboer and graphic designer Michiel Schuurman, who have masterminded the world’s first Paint-By-Numbers dress, sold out of Schuurman’s Studio in The Netherlands.
The dress, which retails at 250 Euros a pop (and comes complete with your own nifty set of textile markers) is sold in a standard black and white template, which wearers can make-up to match an outfit, skin tone, or season. The creators of the dress hope this will encourage the wearer to let their inner muses free and flex some artistic muscle. -PSFK
Calvin Klein Shows Off in Seou

Calvin Klein last week brought its road show to South Korea, the brand’s most important market in Asia.
Women’s Collection creative director Francisco Costa, men’s wear designer Italo Zucchelli and Calvin Klein Inc. president and chief executive officer Tom Murry hosted a party Thursday night at the Kring Creative Culture Space to showcase the spring collections as well as special installations from artists Jean Shin and Neville Wakefield.

Zucchelli, who escorted the makeup-wearing members of Korean boy band 2PM into the venue, said he was impressed at how Korean men are “not afraid” when it comes to fashion. “They like to wear the special pieces,” he observed.

Alexandar McQueen From the Paris Runway: Snake Pit

After a creepy film of slithering snakes kicked-off the show, serpent themes were in abundance at Alexander McQueen's spectacular runway presentation, which featured reptile shoes, clothing and elaborately braided hair. The inspiration for the towering 21-cm (8-inch) shoes with their pre-historic appearance was not fetish footwear but something entirely more feminine. A spokesperson at McQueen said the heels were "based on the visualization of a ballerina standing en pointe, even though models stood in a normal position." -WWD
Tom Ford to Launch Women's Line 'Very Soon'

TOKYO — Tom Ford is getting ready for his return to women’s wear — the only question now is when.
The designer, and now film director, finally acknowledged on the record he’s returning to the women’s arena and confirmed he and his longtime business partner and Tom Ford International chairman Domenico De Sole are on the hunt for financing.
“You know it will take me 18 months when I start, because [I have] to hire the team, find the factories, put everything together and then get the stores ready so there’s a place for these clothes,” said Ford as he sipped a Coke Zero to overcome his jet lag.

Louis Vuitton RTW Spring 2010
Marc Jacobs, one of fashion’s most fearless designers, who has made luxury wrapped in audacious signage his m.o. at Vuitton. “I think people love to show off,” Jacobs said recently. “No one I know is living such a private existence that they don’t want people to see that they’re carrying the newest bag or wearing the newest clothes. Even if they don’t want to admit it, there’s a kind of joy people get from the recognition.”
In the Vuitton collection he showed on Wednesday, Jacobs went for head-to-toe overstatement — literally, from Guido Palau’s brilliantly cartoonish Afros (each one five smaller wigs sewn together) to equally fanciful shoes — riffs on clogs, moccasins, fleecy slides and loafers — that hinted at comfort while flashing decorative hardware and flopping shearling tufts.
And yes, there were bags. Big, flashy, spectacular bags in leather, canvas and denim done up with tassels and tails and vibrant straps worn slung across the torso. Bags that probably already have waiting lists, because Vuitton live-streamed the show and Jacobs used the opportunity to flaunt the fabulous, love-to-show-it-off merch that keeps the Vuitton coffers brimming over. -WWD
Fall/Autumn 2009 Trend: Chunky Knits
While colour is often missing from the palette of fashion trends in the colder months, the same cannot be said for texture . As with the colder seasons of yesteryear, texture in the form of chunky knits will be a prevalent feature of Autumn 2009 / Fall 2009. However, as the world puts the economic down turn behind it, several fashion houses are banking on fashioniers being interested in taking their chunky knits to the level of an extreme sport: introducing super chunky knits .

Diane von Furstenberg RTW Spring 2010
Diane von Furstenberg 's global nomad bounced around the north African desert this season, making a sunset stop along the Nile River. Copper, gold, blue and green done with a dusty finish was the color scheme of her 2010 Spring Runway. The bounty of accessories on the runway were one-part Egyptian Queen (armfuls of woven bangles) and one part Greek Goddess (gold laurel wreaths), celebrating the free-spirited traveler that is Diane von Furstenberg.
